The "Engines and gearboxes" chapter was written by Michael Scarlett from Great Britain, who - after having worked for companies such as Cooper, Brabham and gearbox manufacturer Hewland - decided to join Autocar magazine in 1966. Today he is a consultant for Autocar and an author who contributes for the Daily Telegraph and other publications. The concluding essay by Jürgen Lewandowski is about time, the passion for detail an the love of perfection. After more than two decades with the Süddeutschen Zeitung newspaper in Munich, Lewandowski now works for the Jahreszeiten-Verlag publishing house in Hamburg and major Europaen magazines.
